Gadgets for GooglePages

Gadgets, also known as Widgets, are active components that are typically used to display dynamic or interactive content. The most common implementation of a gadget/widget is an IFRAME element, but gadgets and widgets can also be JavaScript-based, e.g., Bitty Browser and JotForm.

JavaScript was not originally allowed on GooglePages, and some interesting gadgets were developed in order to circumvent this JS limitation, e.g., the Google Analytics gadget.

And even though JavaScript (including Google Analytics and other counters) can now be added to GooglePages HTML code directly, gadgets will remain as the most convenient and versatile method of adding dynamic or interactive content to GooglePages.

Adding Gadgets

Gadgets that can be added to GooglePages are a subset of those used on personalized Google Homepages. To add a gadget, the "experimental features" option must be enabled in GooglePages site settings. Clicking on the "pie" [More...] button brings up a search box, from which gadgets can be selected and dragged to a particular place on a page. In HTML editor, a DIV wrapper can also be added around the IFRAME element, which allows to position the gadget accurately on the page using CSS style options.
