Web Counters and Website Statistics
Hit counters and other tools for analyzing website usage statistics are very popular with webmasters. Whether it is the excitement of knowing how many people from all over the world access the website, or learning how these visitors actually use the site, the data from visitor tracking analysis are very valuable.
Counters on GooglePages
GooglePages do not offer internal options for tracking website visitors, so third-party tools need to be used to obtain the tracking data. The problem is that such external tools need to use JavaScript code to obtain the data for the advanced website usage analysis: referring pages and search engine queries, entrance and exit pages, visitor paths through the site and time spent on individual pages, operating system/browser/resolution information, etc.
Until recently, JS code was not permitted on GooglePages—a policy enforced by removing or disabling any JS code in the source HTML. But currently the JS ban has been at least partially lifted, and it is now possible to add certain classes of JS code to GooglePages. JavaScript-based counters, therefore, can now can be used to obtain full functionality for tracking visitors on GooglePages.
Google Analytics and StatCounter Tutorials
Two detailed tutorials describe how Google Analytics
and StatCounter
tracking codes can be added to a GooglePages website. These two free services offer convenient and powerful options, and accordingly both are popular choices for tracking website usage statistics. Both Google Analytics and StatCounter are used to collect visitor statistics for this website, but otherwise GPX-Files is not affiliated with them in any way.
The procedures described in the two tutorials are based on general observations about adding JavaScript to GooglePages
, therefore analogous procedures should be applicable to adding tracking codes from other services. If you are aware of similar tutorials for other tracking services, please contact GPX-Files.
